At the beginning of June the treasury gave the greeen light for Coventry City Council's PFI waste scheme, awarding them over £120 million of PFI money to start the bidding process for the incinerator contract. On the 10th June BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Radio featured heavily on the potential new incinerator. John Daly, head of the PFI 'Project Transform', which will be overseeing the incinerator project for the council, was in the studio and stated that they had a 'robust business plan for incineration' up until 2040! Jane Green of CRACIN who was invited to give her views on John Daly's comments, pointed out that this was obviously not true as all their data has had to be radically revised, even since the OBC (eg. quantity of waste, price recyclate and housing growth). Significantly he agreed on air to our invitation to take part in a full public debate! The debate is now in the planning process and details will be posted on the news page as soon as they are confirmed. |
